how to save during this trying time (1)

hi

My husband asked me this question a few days back. How do we conserve or save money during financial crisis? I thought for a minute and said, “well I suppose we have to spend less”. But then, as it is, I am already spending less. How much lesser should I spend. We have cut down on our occasional clubbings, I am a window shopper, I don’t spend much on make up, Just using Olay cream, cut down on my facials which I have started to enjoy. Another avenue which I am cutting down on is the children clothings which I think I can afford to. But the few things that I won’t give up are my occasional seafood outings and movies.

Apart from that, is my trust fund. The value of my funds have shrunk. GEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! I am not going to think about it. The worst is the Public China Select Fund. If I have the money , I would do dollar cost averaging now. Now is the best time to dollar cost average cause the prices are very low. Another of my favourite is the Public Ittikal Fund.

Rule of 72

This is one of my favourites. Easy to use and understand. Very helpful in getting my clients to understand some finance.

You can use this rule-of-thumb to estimate how long it will take to double your money under various scenarios. To do this, you simply divide the annual rate of return into 72 to determine how many years it will take to double your money.

For example, if you assume an average 8% return on your Roth IRA or any investment, its value should double every nine years.

72/8% = 9 years

In other words, if you invest $50 000 , it takes 9 years to double the amount to $ 100 000 with an 8% yearly return. Easy?

(This doesn’t consider additional contributions, of course. And for a variety of reasons — particularly market fluctuations — it’s not a precise tool.)

You can run the numbers the other direction, too. What sort of annual return do you need in order to double your money every five years? 72 ÷ 5 = 14.4%.

Wow , isn’t that fantastic.

Use this rule to play around with your own figures.

Happy counting

My weekend in singapore

Well, we had a very nice weekend in Singapore. Not that i actually planned to go there for a holiday, but we kind of tagged along with hubby for his business appointment. Just a two night stay….. too bad could not stay longer. Had other pressing appointments. We stayed in Pan Pacific near Raffles Bvd, a 5 star hotel. Very beautiful. The room was very very nice  and so was the pool. The kids had a great time. Splashed in the pool for the nearly one whole day, then we went out for dinner with hub’s collegue, Nidah from US. Very nice lady to talk to.

The next day was a very wet day. Kids could not go to the pool. Gosh!!!! had a tough time cajoling my son. He is a water baby. That reminds me, i have to send them for swimming classes soon. They were trying the olympic dives in the pool.

Anyway one of the most important must-do item , when in Singapore, is to visit my dear uncle Francis. Very nice uncle. He lost one leg due to diabetes and the other leg does not look too well. But he seems strong. His memory is failing him too. But he could still remember my family. We talked a bit…(more on Malaysian politics) . My aunty Blacy, was a darling. She gave us a good lunch .Too bad could not meet up with my cousin sisters Nancy, Peggy and Molly. Hope to catch up with them the next time.

You see, we left our youngest baby back home. So hubby and I kind of missed him a lot. That was one of the reason we were rushing home. To hug our cute little baby.

Will try to put some photos in the next timeLast edited by

A very tight day

hi hi ho! Today was a hectic day. Got up very early in the morning. Had to catch the commuter to central , then to Bangsar. Attended a Financial Planner course. Very informative and very very useful for my own financial planning, retirement and kids education . Just hope I can remember how to use all the tools. Have to practise on a few guinea pigs first. Anyway, Sachien , my third kid is not too well. Having fever, sore throat and cough.

Anyway, am just too tired to continue……………
